What is Make A Difference Day?
Make A Difference Day is the most
encompassing national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors
helping neighbors. Everyone can participate. Make A Difference Day is an annual
event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October. The next event
is Saturday,
October 27, 2012.
Make A Difference Day is actually a month long
celebration of volunteerism led by The Foundation for the Higher Good. This
year, Make A Difference Day is October 27, 2012, but the foundation encourages
organizations and individuals to plan a volunteer activity during this day,
week or month!
Your project can be as large or
as small as you wish! Look around your
community and see what needs to be done. Let our Community Involvement Coordinator help
you find a project idea to help your community.
After brainstorming, please send
in an entry form so you will be
counted among the millions of volunteers and be considered for an award.
Who can participate?
Anyone--
young and old, individuals and groups, single or divorced-- can carry out a
volunteer project that helps others. It might be as grand as collecting
clothing for the homeless or as personal as spending an afternoon helping an
elderly neighbor or relative.
Thousands will participate in
hundreds of projects because they care about their communities to volunteer on
that day.
FHG’s
strives to help you find the path you were intended to walk. We would like you to join us on October 27,
and start making a difference in someone’s life!
What is the CEO Challenge?
If you are a business owner, CEO, president or executive
who will appreciate meeting industry peers that share your desire for making a
difference, then CEO Challenge is for you! You will meet fellow CEOs that may
be able to help grow your business and, over the next quarter, you will
intimately get to know people that share your passions, values, struggles and
aspirations.
CEO’s in Mid Missouri will compete to be recognized as
the “Most Charitable CEO” as they lead their employees through making a
difference in the community by October 27, 2012.
What
are the rules?
If you want to participate, just
help someone else on the next Make A Difference Week, Saturday, October 27,
2012.
If you volunteer regularly,
great! On Make A Difference Week, give an extra push to your ongoing volunteer
activity. For example, expand your regular tutoring by creating a special event
for the students, such as a trip to the library where they can volunteer or
recruit new students.
If you don't volunteer now, here's
an occasion to get started. You could clean up an elderly neighbor's house or you
could visit the elderly. You can join in on someone else's project listed on our
Web site.
If your volunteers are together
only Monday-Friday (such as schools or workplaces), still plan to do a good
part of your volunteering on October 22, 2011. For example, if students collect food for the
homeless during the school week, get a special group of students and teachers
together on Saturday to hand deliver the food to homeless people or to a
shelter.
If you anticipate you will are
unable to complete your project on Saturday, October 27, 2012, due to religions
or homecoming reasons; please complete your project by Sunday, October 28,
2012.
