FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At the Boone County Courthouse in Columbia, MO (Friday, October 29, 2010) — The Foundation for the Higher Good will be hosting a celebration of volunteerism on October 29.  From 4-6:00 p.m. non profits will share how you can get involved with a variety of organizations and each organization will have autumn kid friendly activities.  Then, at 6:00 p.m. we will have a FREE concert with Javier Mendoza!

Make a Difference Week is a celebration of volunteerism led by The Foundation for the Higher Good (FHG). This year the campaign highlighted the importance of kindness and helping others. FHG collaborated with local businesses, groups, and schools to make a difference in their community October 17-23.

The CEO Challenge was an exciting new contest that was launched in support of Make A Difference Week!  As CEO’s work with their employees to make an impact in the community, our goal is to find the Most Charitable CEO during Make a Difference Week.  Commerce Bank employees partnered with Boone County Council of Aging, Inside Columbia Magazine partnered with Job Point, GILS Group has partnered with Trekking for Kids, and Christian Fellowship School partnered with The Food Bank to make a difference.  The Foundation for the Higher Good had over 5o businesses, and 500 volunteers for our 1st Make a Difference Week in Columbia, MO.

Tom Bradley will kick off the evening at 6:00 p.m. and recognize our top CEO’s for Make a Difference Week.  We will announce the winner of our CEO Challenge for Make a Difference Week. Who will be found our Most Charitable CEO?  Our Make a Difference Week Committee has it narrowed down to three businesses: Commerce Bank, Inside Columbia Magazine, Christian Fellowship School and Global Innovative Legal Solutions.   Then Karla Diaz with Global Innovative Legal Solutions is our presenting sponsor for the evening.  She will introduce our special guest, Javier Mendoza.  So come out and join us for a fun evening of music and dancing!

We encourage families to come out and learn how you can make a difference as a family.  Non profits will share their needs and volunteer opportunities as well as kid friendly games.  We encourage you to wear your costume because The District is having trick or treating with many of the local businesses downtown.

Boone Tavern, LaSiesta, and Room 38 Lounge will be donating a percentage of their sales to charity.  So please support these local businesses and dine near the Courthouse Square on Friday, October 29!
